DEM% and REP% — Two-Party Vote Share
All Democratic and Republican percentages use two-party vote share — each party's votes divided by the combined DEM + REP total only. This removes the effect of third-party candidates so year-over-year comparisons reflect genuine shifts in partisan support.
DEM% = DEM votes ÷ (DEM votes + REP votes) × 100
Swing
Swing shows how much a party's two-party share changed between the two selected years, in percentage points (pp). A green badge means the party gained share; a dark badge means it lost share. Badge colors are directional only — no party colors are used.
Swing = DEM% (Year B) − DEM% (Year A)
Ballots vs. Votes
Ballots cast counts each physical ballot once regardless of how many races are on it. Votes refers to votes for a specific candidate in a specific race. The Ballots columns in the municipality table use ballots cast — not the sum of candidate votes.
Turnout
Turnout reflects participation in the election as a whole, not in any specific race.
Turnout % = Total ballots cast ÷ Registered voters × 100
